I recently was unfortunate enough to have to deal with Regions Bank in Nacogdoches, TX though it is the ENTIRE banks policy at every location. We were written a check by a Regions customer and when we went to their bank to cash the check we were informed that we had to pay a fee of $7.00 because we didn't have an account with them.

First I don't care about $7.00 it's the principal and I am not the first to get really mad about this why would I EVER do business with a bank that is both that hard up an crooked.

My bank has NEVER charged a soul to cash a check I wrote to anyone and I don't believe they ever would though maybe all the banks in town should start charging only Regions bank customers a fee so they would make their bank change it's ways. I think this is wrong on many different levels and Bad Business only begins to explain it.

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas

I totally agree with your post. I too Bank with Regions in Nacogdoches.

It is amazing how they stand behind their policy to ripp you off. Dissatisfied with my banking choice.

Regions needs the $7.00 to cover their expenses. If you are not a Regions customer go to your own bank and stop the complaining.

It's a regions bank. Most banks charge if you cash a check unrelated to their bank.

They have direct measures to assure the funds are available from the account that wrote the check. So they shouldn't charge the non Customer.

Just had the same thing happen to me! Wanted to charge me $16 to cash one of their customersโ€™s checks.

Youโ€™ve got to be kidding! Took the check and walked out.

Iโ€™ll just deposit it into my real bank at Bank of the Ozarks. Told them I would never open an account with them or do any business with them!

I had the same thing happen to me in *** GA today. Charged me $2 to cash a $100 check from one of their depositors.

Their teller and manager were both rude and condescending. Junk fees are just that....a way to nickel-and-dime customers for really nothing.

Banks can literally create money out of thin air on every deposit....they're NOT HURTING FOR MONEY !!!!! Yet, that's the rub (and scam) !!!

I was charged a non customer fee to cash my payroll check at Regions in McMinnville, as I was waiting in line I was going to open a savings account due to living in another town working long hours it would be easier, but when I was charged a 10.00 non customer fee. I decided really quit that wouldn't happen.

I had another choice to give them 50.00 to open a savings account to save the 10.00. Now it might be a great bank to do business with but I will never know not a great first impression

Guest

I just had the same problem. My payroll check is made out by them and since I was a non customer they wanted to charge me 15$ to cash it.

Guest

I completely agree, the regions bank in McMinnville, TN. charged me 1.00 per hundred on a 951.00 dollar check, but in fact they charged me another dollar for the 51 dollars also for a total of 10.00 instead of 9.50 that was from one of their own accounts.

That's highway robbery!!!!! I will never accept region bank checks ever again. In fact, I'm never accepting checks ever again. They can bring old fashion cash from now on.

*** on this new way of buying and spending. Credit cards and checks are a big hassel and take too long at the check out line....

Guest

They tried to charge me $20 to cash a check. A bunch of crooks.

Pointing out hideous corporate greed is not whining. It's standing up for what's right. If you don't like that, perhaps you could take your own advice and stop your real whining, which is what the greedy do when they get called out on their BS and self-serving mentality.

Guest

Corporate greed in the most disgusting sense. Charging to cash their own checks.

Why would anyone want an account where their customers are charged superfluous fees?

So glad Regions stands alone with this terrible policy. Shame on them!

Guest

I too went to cash a check at Regions bank after one of their customers had written me a check. I have an account at three other banks, but not at Regions.

And though I prefer not to take personal checks from anyone, when I do, to protect myself from possible return check fees, I always take their check to their bank to ensure that the check can be covered. I was totally flabbergasted when Regions informed me that they were going to charge me to cash the check.

If other banks had this same policy, then it would not be that big of an issue. But considering that Regions bank is the only bank that I have dealt with that does this-Wells Fargo does not, Bank of America does not, Chase does not-I find this practice to be one of greed and poor business practices.

Guest

This is a policy of most banks. You are paying a convenience fee for getting the money in your hands immediately instead of having to wait for the check to clear your bank.

And these checks are not "the banks" checks.

They belong to the individuals that wrote them. If you don't like it, don't accept a check, or take it to your own bank, and quit whining about it!

In todays banking money is accessed the same day, computer you know, so when they

hold your funds for x amount of days, they in theory have borrowed your money

for free............

I tried to cash a Regions bank check written to me, I do not have an account with them, they told me I would have to pay a percentage of the check to cash it. I was FLABERGASSTED!!

Charging me a fee for their own check? Unheard of. I have accounts at 5 other banks; no such rule exists there.

I will NEVER do business at Regions EVER! :(

Then cash it at one of your many banks. Incidentally almost all banks charge this fee and have for years, it's nothing new.

Apparently "ransom" is a Regions Bank stockholder, employee or stockholder of another bank! Does my non-Regions bank have to pay Regions to have the Regions's cashed on my behalf?

If no then why not?

By the way "ransom" you have an almost approbriate name, but I could pose a better one. It is your kind of thinking that encourages such greed in other areas of the economy as well.

You are WRONG! Not ALL banks do this and I am a Regions customer.

I just found out this policy when I wrote a check to a family member who does not bank with Regions and when they went to cash at Regions a check drawn off their own institution my family member told me Regions was going to charge them for cashing my check. That is BS!

Regions sees my account and funds available that is LOW to charge anyone I write a check to who wants the cash instead of depositing to their own institution. I am now leaving Regions bank after many years of being a loyal customer.

I've personally filed a complaint with the FDIC over this behavior and encourage others to do the same. It is unacceptable for a bank to charge someone for cashing a check written by one of their account holders.

I'm already in the process of cutting regions off from my day to day business including closing my own accounts with them and I will not accept any form of payment other than cash from a regions account holder. Regions bank can fall flat on their face for all I'm concerned, bunch of crooks.

@linda: same goes for any other bank that takes part in these kind of practices. Don't accuse people whining because they refuse to be stepped on by a bunch of crooks.

You can roll over and take the beating, the rest of will continue to fight for ourselves and on behalf of people like you that just take whatever is shoved down their throat. ***.
